There is a kind of "all your base are belong to us" presumption, a sense that the social scientists knows better than any individual American ever will. It's as if any idea is superior to any worldly practice, even when it isn't very good at capturing that practice. (It's also as if the final destination of class disdain proved to be the social scientists who claimed to be its enemy.)" If there's a better statement than this one to sum up the University of Chicago, I'd like to read it.
