You are on to something when you say that the third dad &quot;was wearing everyone on his sleeve.&quot; To borrow Ellen Barkin&#039;s term, they&#039;re accessories. Ultimately disposable. And not at all like a trophy to be treasured.

Or open a present from under the Christmas tree that you really really do want. Reading this was just like that... a gorgeous vignette that sent little shivers down unexpected nerve paths.
